Giving boredom the elbow this summer
Performers and children at this year’s EC1 Summer Festival help launch the Summer’s here guide Boredom just won’t be a feature in EC1 this summer thanks to a full programme of activities funded by EC1 New Deal for Communities (NDC). £50,000 has been invested to ensure there’s lots going on at local youth clubs and play facilities.
And the inspiration for things to do over the long break doesn’t stop there. EC1 NDC has produced a 40-page guide called Summer’s here which contains dozens of fun ideas for things to do and places to go.
Launched at the EC1 Summer Festival last Saturday (12 July) and distributed to every household in the EC1 NDC area, the free guide not only lists all the activities taking place locally, but highlights some of London’s best places to visit – many of which are free of charge.
From city farms and beautiful parks to adventure playgrounds and museums; the guide also includes reviews by residents who have road-tested a selection of top attractions including the London Dungeons, London Aquarium and Natural History Museum.
There’s also a fantastic competition to win one of two VIP Family Pass prizes – allowing free entry to over 50 London attractions.
EC1 board member and local resident Ian Merriman said:
"The summer break is a long stretch of time off school and college and so it’s important that there’s lots going on locally for children and young people.
“Summer is a great opportunity for all of us to make the most of this amazing city we live in.
“There are so many things to do and places to go and Summer's here has been carefully designed to provide ideas and inspiration so that whether you're a mum, dad, grandparent, child or young person - you can make the most of the holidays."
