Feathered friends flock back to EC1 Summer Festival

Feathered friends flock back to EC1 Summer Festival A star-struck festival visitor with a hawk at the 2006 EC1 Summer Festival.

Epping Forest Hawk and Owl Sanctuary caused a flap at the EC1 Summer Festival two years ago, when these commanding birds drew a rapt crowd.

The magnificent creatures are back on Saturday for this year’s EC1 Summer Festival. Visitors will get the rare opportunity to see the birds close up, and will even have the chance to handle them.

The owls and hawks will be just one of the many attractions in King Square Gardens this Saturday. There is a lively programme of entertainment planned for the main stage, from line dancing to master percussionist Mamadi Kamara, from salsa dancers to a tug of war.

Elsewhere on the festival site, there will be plenty of non-feathered entertainment with children’s rides, face paints, arts and crafts, giant human table football, massage tent and DJ tent with an open mic for MCs and singers.

As usual there will be a wide variety of fete stalls selling children’s clothes, jewellery, toys and bric-a-brac, as well as information stalls from the police, Islington Council’s green living centre, the Save Bart’s Hospital Campaign and Islington Library.

The finale will be a colourful festival parade led by the Rhythms of the City samba band.

Funded by EC1 New Deal for Communities, the EC1 Summer Festival is now in its sixth year and is established as the highlight of the season for the EC1 community.
