American students get their green fingers out on EC1 estate

American students get their green fingers out on EC1 estate Arianna Koudounas from the New York University in London helping to plant with resident Jean Grout on Pleydell Estate, EC1.

Students from New York University in London volunteered on Pleydell Estate, EC1 this week (Monday 7 April), planting shrubs to fill in gaps in flower beds and hedges.

The planting, organised and funded by EC1 New Deal for Communities (NDC), included wildlife-friendly plants to encourage insects and birds to make their homes in the greenery.

“The four volunteers were very helpful,” said Heather Stabler, Community Environmental Outreach Officer at EC1 NDC. “Thanks to them, together with committed resident gardeners Jean Grout and Peter May, Pleydell Estate is looking a lot greener and this will increase as the plants grow.”
