The search is on for EC1 Heroes Pride Awards winners 2008, Adel Soufe and Michael Potten celebrate with friends and family

EC1 New Deal for Communities (NDC) launches the EC1 Pride in our People Awards 2010 – the awards ceremony designed to recognise those special people in the local community who make a genuine difference to the lives of their neighbours, colleagues and friends.

Be it someone who regularly gives up their own time to help others, a neighbour who always has the time for a cup of tea and a chat, a teacher who makes learning fun or a group of people whose teamwork gets results; we all have our heroes and now’s the chance to give them the recognition they deserve.

It is down to the people who live and work in the EC1 area to nominate their hero and the awards have been split into the following categories:

EC1 young person of the year
EC1 teacher of the year
EC1 business of the year
EC1 good neighbour of the year
EC1 volunteer of the year
EC1 carer of the year
EC1 team of the year
EC1 lifetime achiever

Local resident and broadcaster Kate Silverton who has hosted the awards ceremony in previous years is giving the awards her support this year and said: “Through my involvement with the EC1 Pride Awards I’ve been touched by the stories of people going to extraordinary lengths for others. The awards are a great way to thank those special people who keep community spirit alive and well in EC1. I encourage everyone to think about someone they know who deserves recognition and make a nomination now.”

The finalists in each category will be invited to attend a glittering "Oscar-style" ceremony at LSO St Luke’s on Wednesday 12 May and the winner of each category will be announced on the night.

Nominations can be done online at www.ec1prideawards.com or call 020 3142 5053 to obtain a nomination form. The awards are open to anyone living or working in the EC1 NDC area.
