Carnival fever in EC1

Carnival fever in EC1 Maame Antober in year 4, Moreland Primary School, making her costume.

Carnival fever hit Moreland Primary School today (Monday 6 July), as children made colourful costumes for the EC1 Summer Festival.

Artist Sandrine Case helped the children in year 4’s Emerald class to make decorative garments for the parade where they will be accompanied by a samba band and stilt walkers. Other children who want to join in will have the chance – they can make their costumes at the arts and craft corner of the festival on the day.

The parade will be the culmination of a busy day in King Square Gardens featuring music and dancing on the main stage, children’s rides, fete stalls, human table football, DJ tent, massage, giant knitting, willow weaving and gardening activities. The ever-popular Epping Forest Hawks and Owls are back this year and for the first time the Whittington Steel Band will bring the sounds of summer to the park.

This year’s Summer Festival is organised by EC1 New Deal for Communities and the St Luke’s Centre.

EC1 Summer Festival is this Saturday 11 July, 12pm to 5pm, in King Square Gardens. The parade starts at 4pm.
