EC1 history celebrated
Smithfield Meat Market (1943), part of the St John St walking trail The rich history of the EC1 area is celebrated with a new website and a debate chaired by Lord Chris Smith of Finsbury.
The website and debate are part of One History, EC1 in the making – a project funded by EC1 New Deal for Communities to highlight, commemorate and record the history of the area.
On the site you can download a historical guided walk to St John Street, listen to interviews with people who live or work in the area and read articles by King’s College London’s Dr David Green.
The talk and debate Finsbury: Past, Present & Future chaired by former MP for Islington South & Finsbury, Lord Chris Smith of Finsbury, is happening at the Old Finsbury Town Hall on Wednesday 10 June at 7.30pm.
