EC1 goes green with free plant giveaway
Rufiate Shomade and Kulsoom Hussain with their cuttings. Free plants and gardening tips were dished out at the EC1 Green Fingers gardening club last week (Thursday 12 March).
The club is run by EC1 New Deal for Communities at the St Luke’s Centre, Central Street to help local people get into gardening, especially those with little or no outside space.
Last Thursday’s event attracted a range of gardening novices and experts who were shown how to take cuttings from old plants to grow new ones.
EC1 resident Kulsoom Hussain went along to the club for the first time and enjoyed the experience. She said:
“I’m a complete beginner and although I was amongst some experts, I didn’t feel left behind at all.
I don’t have a garden, or even a balcony so it’s really great to take home some greenery to add life to my flat.”
The next EC1 Green Fingers club is Thursday 16 April, 6.30pm to 8pm at the St Luke’s Centre, Central Street, EC1V 8AJ. To book a place call the St Luke’s Centre on 020 7549 8181 and ask to speak to Heather Stabler.
