Ancient market gets new website

Ancient market gets new website Whitecross Street market

One of London's oldest street markets has been given a modern update thanks to a new website.

The Whitecross Street website now lists all the street's traders, from traditional and trendy cafes to hairdressers and stalls selling gourmet dishes and fresh fruit.
It also offers history of the market, which dates back to the 17th century and useful tips, such as the Two Brewers pub where drinkers can bring food from the market to enjoy with a pint.

The website has been set up by Islington Council thanks to funding from EC1 New Deal from Communities.

EC1 New Deal for Communities board member Troy Gallagher said: “Whitecross Street and its market is really taking off. Lots of new stalls and businesses have moved in over the past couple of years. The new website gives the street a true identity and is a great resource for customers, traders and residents looking for more information.”

Cllr Lucy Watt, Islington Council's Executive Member for business, said: "Whitecross Street is an absolute gem and has a huge amount to offer. It has been a real success story in the last few years. The new-look website is much more detailed and should help bring even more people into Whitecross Street."

On Thursday 4 and Friday 5 December Whitecross Street is holding a Christmas Festival.
