A bunch of blooming awards for EC1

A bunch of blooming awards for EC1 The Mayor of Islington Stefan Kasprzyk and Councillor Ruth Polling presenting the Best School Grounds Certificate of Excellence to Vicky Cunningham, gardener at Toffee Park Adventure Playground, and children from Toffee Park.

EC1 picked up a bunch of prizes at the Islington in Bloom awards ceremony last week.

EC1 New Deal for Communities’ £130,000 investment this year in nurturing green-fingers in the area has come up smelling of roses as the EC1 area won a disproportionately high quota of accolades at the borough-wide awards.

Heather Stabler, EC1 NDC’s Community Environmental Outreach Officer who works with the community gardening groups in the area said:

“A lot of EC1 projects did really well, thanks to the hard work of all the gardeners involved. We were particularly pleased that the mini-allotments at the St Luke’s Centre did so well in their first year. We got lots of ideas and hope to do even better next year.”

Three EC1 projects were also recognised in the London in Bloom awards the week before. The St Luke’s Centre, the Redbrick Estate and Quaker Court were all awarded merits in the Neighbourhood Award category.
