Bug hunting in EC1

Bug hunting in EC1 Paige (6) with her coloured in dragonfly and butterfly.

Local children turned intrepid explorers in search of mysterious creatures last Wednesday (30 July) when EC1 New Deal for Communities and Islington Council organised a bug hunt on Spa Fields.

The children discovered shield bugs and grass hoppers and learnt about their habitat and life cycle. As well as catching bugs, they also drew pictures of the creatures they found and coloured in pictures of butterflies and dragonflies.

Matthew Loveday, EC1 New Deal for Communities Young Person Environmental Outreach Officer, said:

“The children found loads of exciting creepy crawlies in the Spa Fields undergrowth, they had a lot of fun but they also learnt about the variety of plants and animals that live in their local park.”

The event was the first in a series of free green-related activities for children organised by EC1 New Deal for Communities that are happening over the summer.
