Welcome to YOUR EC1
EC1 New Deal for Communities (NDC) is one of thirty-nine NDC partnerships across England that has received government funding over a ten-year period to kick-start the regeneration of deprived neighbourhoods.
EC1 NDC was awarded £52.9m for the period from 1 April 2001 to 31 March 2011. The NDC covers an area of around 4,800 households in the southern-most part of the London Borough of Islington, near the border with the City of London (click here to see a map).
Since the start of the programme we have funded and supported hundreds of projects aimed at improving health, education, employment and training, services for young people and the quality of the local environment. We have also achieved a considerable amount of progress through influencing the way that organisations like Islington Council and Homes for Islington deliver their services. Click here to see the latest report to the Government on how we are doing.
Our aims are that, by 2011:
- The EC1 area will be a cleaner, greener, safer and more attractive place to live, work, study, play, visit and do business;
- The people who live in the EC1 area will be healthier and wealthier, with improved skills, qualifications and life opportunities;
- The EC1 community will be stronger and more sustainable, with an improved sense of civic pride and social responsibility and be more involved in shaping its own destiny;
- These improvements will be sustainable beyond the end of the New Deal for Communities (NDC) programme.
