Estate recycling now a permanent feature

Estate recycling now a permanent feature The weekly food waste collection service at Braithwaite House

Residents on four estates in EC1 now have permanent access to easy recycling.

Following a year-long pilot funded by EC1 New Deal for Communities, recycling schemes on Braithwaite House, Quaker Court, Lagonier House and Epworth Street are now being run on a permanent basis by Islington Council. The pilot scheme proved that recycling is needed on these estates, so the council was happy to take over running it.

It’s often the case that recycling services aren’t as efficient on estates as for street-fronted homes, but, Braithwaite House and Quaker Court have easy-to-use mixed recycling bins on their grounds and a weekly food collection service. At Lagonier House there is a successful recycling chute system and at Epworth Street, mixed recycling is collected from outside front doors by the cleaner each week.
